Our Mission: to foster a space that welcomes, celebrates, and supports scholars of African descent, with co-curricular programming intentionally designed to provide support, engagement, and release Black joy and creativity.
Our History
After the murder of Mr. George Floyd on May 25, 2020 in Minneapolis, MN, the Santa Rosa Junior College Black Student Union along with BLAC (Black Leadership Association Collective) presented the district with a list of demands. These demands included creation of an office for Black student development. The BSU didn’t stop at just sending the demands, they also went out and secured donations from the community totaling over $130K. As a result, the Sawubona Black Student Success Center was created and officially opened summer of 2021.
